The village sits in a side valley running west off the main Cte, tucked out of sight behind Chassagne Montrachet and Puligny Montrachet, and for most of its history that invisibility was the whole problem: the RN74 runs past its neighbors and not past Saint Aubin. The geology does not care. The vineyards climb to higher elevation than the villages below them, on thin limestone and marl soils,
